Al Pacino's character puts himself in the speech many times. 'I'm too old', says his character,'I look around and I see these young faces
and I think
I mean
I made every wrong choice a middle age man could make.I uh....
I pissed away all my money
believe it or not.
I chased off anyone who has ever loved me.
And lately, I can't even stand the face I see in the mirror.'
He starts to talk about his past and how he threw his life away when he was young. He tells his team how he screwed up and he didn't want his team to take the same path he did. He's telling them that there in a hole, and there in there deep, and that he was once in that hole, and he hasn't got out. And now there in that hole, but if they work as a team then they could get out of that hole if they work together.
Q2. What effect does it have on the speech?
It makes the team see that he was once as in as bad trouble as they
were and he stuck through it and made it out which makes the team see that if he can do it, so can they and if he can come back from his past then they can to. His honesty gains his teams trust and he's being humble. He uses repition which makes them remember not giving up inches.
